History

A subject guide to library resources in history.

Historical Research at CSU Stanislaus

The CSU Stanislaus University Library offers many resources to historical researchers. Use this guide as a starting point for finding primary sources (see below) and explore the tabbed navigation to the left to find books, journal articles, and other resources for specific topics.

Ways to search library catalogs and databases for primary sources

Use the Advanced Search for best results

  • AUTHOR search: to find materials someone has written
  • KEYWORD search: To look for primary sources, combine a topic, keyword, or person's name with any of the following:
    •  autobiography
    • personal narratives
    • letters
    • correspondence
    • diaries
    • memoirs

Tip: "sources" is the official subject sub-heading used in the Library Catalog (via OneSearch) and WorldCat to describe primary sources. For example, the subject heading "Crusades--Sources" indicates the work contains primary sources on the crusades. Books listed in these catalogs that contain the word "sources" in a subject heading should have primary source materials.
