The University Library subscriptions include unlimited access to Academic Video Online (AVON) as well as other collections (such as Psychotherapy.net & JOVE). It is preferable for instructors to check the suitability of materials from these existing library resources first. If this content do not meet curricular needs, additional individual titles can be licensed or purchased from other sources.
Faculty can submit a request to the library and the library will investigate the options for temporary access (typically annual licenses) or permanent ownership.
Additional publishers and services include Media Education Foundation (streaming available via Kanopy), Bullfrog (available via Docuseek), and SWANK (some popular films may be available for streaming or public performance).
If a video is only available on DVD (and there is no commercial online streaming license available for purchase), weighing the four copyright fair use criteria usually works in favor of fair use. If the library owns a DVD and there is no online streaming license available, weighing copyright fair use may allow loading to Mediasite for access via an LMS (e.g. Blackboard, Moodle). See the OIT guidelines for more information on this process.
